Autistic children thrive in an environment that offers a consistent and predictable routine. When there is a lack of structure or sudden changes to routines, they may feel overwhelmed and anxious. This can lead to expressions of challenging behavior that adults may struggle to understand. Establishing consistency in routines helps create a sense of safety and security for these children, promoting their well-being and minimizing anxiety and frustration.

With Andrew, we have set out a clear daily schedule for him to follow and gave him visual calendars of his school events so he know what to expect and mentally prepare for them.

This schedule was crafted with Andrew in mind, considering his love for iPad playtime while also ensuring breaks for his well-being. We found a compromise that allows him to enjoy his favorite activities while incorporating enjoyable breaks for communication and self-expression.
